Pogba back in training with Juventus

Paul Pogba returned to training with Juventus on Tuesday just over a month before France s first World Cup game.

The midfielder s second spell with Juve got off to a nightmare start when he suffered a lesion to the lateral meniscus in his right knee.

That injury blow has prevented Pogba from making a competitive appearance for the Bianconeri following his Manchester United exit.

Pogba was back training with his Juve team-mates on Tuesday, however, with the club revealing he worked partially with the squad as he was pictured in action.

Arsenal hit with FA charge following VAR controversy in Leeds win

Arsenal have been charged by the Football Association (FA) with failing to control their players during a controversial ending to their 1-0 win over Leeds United on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta s team moved four points clear of Manchester City at the Premier League summit as Bukayo Saka scored the only goal of the game at Elland Road, though they required two huge reprieves.

Patrick Bamford drilled a penalty wide following a handball by William Saliba on the hour mark, before a VAR review overturned a stoppage-time red card for Gabriel Magalhaes – as well as another spot-kick for Leeds.

Arsenal s players reacted furiously to Chris Kavanagh s original decision to dismiss Gabriel for a perceived kick at Bamford, leading the FA to take action.

Ajax sign Nick Viergever

Ajax Amsterdam have announced on their official website that they have completed the signing of Dutch defender Nick Viergever from AZ Alkmaar.

The 24-year-old has signed a four-year deal with the Dutch giants, but the transfer fee amount was not disclosed.

Ajax officials decided to swoop for Viergever when it became clear that key defender Niklas Moisander could be leaving in the summer.

The Dutch giants quickly managed to secure the signature of one of league s hottest prospects, adding another quality footballer to the roster for the 2014/2015 season.

Nick Viergever came through the youth ranks at Sparta Rotterdam and went on to make 33 league appearances before joining AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2010.

Doubt over Aquilani future

Serie A club Juventus are unwilling to meet Liverpool s demands for on-loan midfielder Alberto Aquilani.

Aquilani experienced an injury-riddled spell with the Liverpool outfit after arriving from hometown club Roma for 17 million pounds in August 2009.

After falling out of the first-team picture at the English Premier League club early this season, he was sent on loan to Juve by now-departed Reds coach Roy Hodgson.

The 26-year-old has expressed a desire to remain in Turin, despite Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish suggesting the Italian could return to Anfield next season.

But the midfielder, who has featured in 35 games this season for Luigi Del Neri s man and won a recall to the Italy national squad, might not be granted his wish to remain in his homeland.…

Why Manchester City shouldn’t underestimate bogey team Liverpool in the Capital One Cup final

Liverpool are preparing for their Capital One Cup final clash against Manchester City on Sunday, and are coming off the back of fine form to give themselves confidence of getting a result. The Merseysiders will relish being underdogs with the bookmakers, but City shouldn’t write them off as easily given they have been on the wrong end of results to Liverpool in their last few head-to-heads.

Liverpool have bested Manchester City plenty of times before

Earlier this season, Jurgen Klopp masterminded a 4-1 win at the Etihad Stadium, and it’s not the only time the Reds have bested the Sky Blues in the last handful of Premier League seasons either. Liverpool take home the bragging rights in their last four domestic head-to-heads, and they’ve enjoyed success ove…

Del Bosque: There is no magic formula

Vicente del Bosque insists there is no secret to Spain s success, and shuns the idea of his side being favourites for the FIFA World Cup.

Spain have been the outstanding team in international football in recent years, winning three consecutive major tournaments, including the World Cup in South Africa four years ago.

They have achieved that success with their tiki-taka brand of football, which is based on keeping possession for large periods and wearing their opponents down.

But Del Bosque, who oversaw Spain s triumph in 2010 as well as their UEFA European Championships success two years later, told Marca that Spain s gameplan is not dogmatic and exists only because it suits the strengths of their squad.

Football can be played well in many different ways, he said…
